Living in a Chemical-Free Home: Save Earth, Save Health, Save Budget

Organic products, although expensive, can save you and the environment from harmful chemical effects and eventually will keep you away from more expensive medical expenses.

Environmental health consultant Beth Greer said that chemicals can interfere with our natural hormones. This may lead to worse conditions like asthma, allergies and other symptoms like nausea, headache and fatigue - which may cause more devastating health problems, according to Pop Sugar.

However, there are some budget-friendly ways on how to switch to chemical-free living.

You may start switching from food and products that you usually use, and start out with one in each category. If you love dairy products, for example, buy organic eggs where the hens who laid it were not treated with pesticide or growth hormone. For another example, you may go for calamansi or calamondin to replace your everyday deodorant. Aside from its whitening compound, its deodorizing effect can last up to 24 hours.

The farmers' market is a great place for organic vegetables. Shopping just before it closes will find you great deals as farmers don't want to bring their products back to their farm. It will also be economical and fun if you plant some in your own backyard.

An article from For Rent also suggests that you can replace household supplies with organic products.

For fresher air, you may simply decorate your home with indoor plants and ditch chemical-based air freshener. Plants absorb bad air like carbon dioxide and releases oxygen. Two plants are enough for a 100 square feet space.

Chemical-free cleaners can be found in your kitchen. Lemon rinds can freshen up garbage disposal. Vinegar on the other hand is an all-around cleaning agent as well as a great replacement for fabric softener. These products have the same effect as their chemical counterparts without affecting your health and the environment.

Living in a chemical-free home does not have to hurt your budget. Switching one product at a time will eventually lead you to your goal of living healthy and naturally.
