Home Tips: What to Do to Raise Your Design Game

If you are not reserved about redecorating your home to look like those luxurious mansions, then you should know these tips to raise your design game.

If you have been watching too many home design shows or flipping through magazines about interior decorations, it is more likely that you would like to try on a certain layout to your own living space. If you are a risk-taker and would love to have a bit of adventure in giving a room or two of your house a face lift, read these suggestions from designers and you might find a couple or more tips that you could replicate.

According to The Daily Gazette, Nate Berkus, a popular interior designer, suggests to add objects from your trips to your space. Therefore, if you are well travelled, whether it is just within the country, try bringing home a piece of the place with you. Just make sure that what you are buying will add dimension and panache to the room you are placing the object in.

On the other hand, Thom Filicia, the resident designer of the show "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," advised homeowners to use wall-mounted scones and flush-mounted lighting fixtures. These lights, coupled with recessed lights of the ceiling, could provide a classic feel to a contemporary room.

Another tip for upping your design game is to hang objects on a grid pattern. Designer Carmel Greet said that, "Almost anything becomes interesting when hung in a grid." The wall becomes more appealing and at the same time, if you are hanging collections, it would save you some storage space.

It may be quite unconventional but Michael Hampton suggested to wallpaper the ceiling. Hampton said that ceilings are often overlooked when designing the home. Most ceilings have just chandeliers hanging or light fixtures peeking but are not much given effort when it comes to design. By installing a wallpaper on it, the room could give off a luxurious feel.

Lastly, you could extend the outdoor view into your interior. According to Erin Paige Pitts, if you have a marvelous view of the landscape outside, the paint on your walls should complement it. This provides a smooth shift from exterior to interior and vice versa.
