When Julia Child's fans heard of the upcoming changes in the property, not everyone was sharing the same feelings. There were a huge fraction of people who felt happy that the house will be taken back to its roots, while there are some who aren't open to the changes at all. Each party voiced out their opinion in several social media platforms.
Child's home has become an iconic part of Provence, France as Child was a symbol of excellence in France's culinary scene. It is so famous that when tourists visit the area, they always make it a habit to drop by.
This historic property in Plascassier, in Provence, France is comprised of a 1,616 square foot cottage called "La Pitchoune" which translates as "the little one." It boasts of four bedrooms and bathroom, a beautiful fireplace, a small pool and the famous kitchen of Child, which is widely known as the last personal belonging of the acclaimed chef and TV personality. It is believed that the kitchen, except for the modernized stone is still the exact kitchen where Child cooked and ate her food during her childhood.
The house had a very colorful history. It was built back in 1963 and sheltered Child's family. This was where she grew up. In 1992, it was renovated and then repurposed into a culinary school named "Cooking With Friends in France."
This quaint cottage was listed in the market by Sotheby's International Realty for only 800,000 euros. Kathy Alex who knew Child personally headed the team of the realty in charge of selling the property. Thanks to Sotheby, Child's cottage found its new owner, Makenna Johnston a self-employed business strategist and life coach, who has already planned for the future of this humble home.
Johnston plans to give honor to the house's history by opening up a cooking retreat that is coupled by yoga excursions. Guests are now open to book for the opening in May most specifically for the yoga excursion because Johnson is set to open the doors to the cooking session later in 2017 until its head chef completes her program at the International Culinary Center.
