A former chapel orphanage converted to a one of a kind "religious-chic" home in New Orleans is back on the market for $4.4 million.
The 5, 000-square-foot property in the St. Elizabeth Condos was initially listed for $4.95 million. It was once a home to a famous writer, Anne Rice. However, it is not clear if she really lived there, since it is just one of her many houses in New Orleans.
It was built in the 1960s. The two-story property has three bedrooms and five bathrooms. It boasts stained glass windows and 24-foot ceilings, fitness room, and a secured parking.
The property also has security cameras and centralized air-conditioning. The house has a dryer, dishwasher, ice maker, microwave, refrigerator, range/oven, washer, and wine cooler.
St. Elizabeth Condo in New Orleans was built in the 1860s and 1870s. It is known honeysuckle-wrapped iron gate with two torch-wielding angels. Aside from being an orphanage, it was also a girls' boarding school.
Rice purchased the building in 1993 for just $1 million and sold it for $6.5 million nine years later. It currently has 28 luxury condos that include the orphanage chapel. It is located in the historic Garden District.
According to a report, the girls living in St. Elizabeth's Chapel were taught needlework by the Daughters of Charity before going outside to find work or get married. The St. Elizabeth's Chapel stopped operating in 1989.
Rice used the property as venue for events. That includes a visit from Bill Clinton.
On the other hand, "Vampire Chronicles" is one of the series that Ann Rice has written. It includes the book, "Interview with the Vampire". She was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. She became well-known in writing erotica and vampire novels. The "Interview with the Vampire" became so popular and made its way to Hollywood and stared by Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.
