Open floor plans have been one of the most popular trends in the real estate market nowadays. While some people are still debating over this topic, is an open-plan bathroom the next major trend to hit the market this 2016?
Open floor plans are becoming increasingly popular among first-time homebuyers. As eplans reports, open layouts are one of the bestselling plans in the market because it "encourages a more modern relationship between the kitchen, traditionally considered a working zone, and formal spaces such as the living room and dining room."
Open layouts also offer a way to maximize space within a small area, as walls limit the space in between two different rooms. While some people are still foreign and growing accustomed to the idea of an open floor plan, Realtor.com reports on the next best trend to hit homes this 2016 - an open bathroom.
That's right, an open bathroom wherein you can simultaneously connect with your loved ones or watch your favorite shows even while you are taking a bath. You no longer need to close and open a door to get to and from the bathroom.
The publication further states that: "your home isn't your castle to hide in, but a stage where all is revealed," citing Kim Kardashian and Salman Rushdie as celebs who have open bathrooms at home. It would be wise to note, however, that the aforementioned publication's article is only for April Fools.
While the April Fools article is an interesting take on the matter, this is not really the first time an open-plan bathroom was introduced. According to Slate, several hotels are already introducing the idea of an open-plan bathroom in their rooms, including the Standard Hotel in New York City and the Lloyd Hotel in Amsterdam.
"I think of bathrooms as living rooms," said Morgane Rousseau, who designed the Hotel Particulier Montmartre. "The bathroom is a private place sometimes but it's also for sharing."
