Many fans and viewers of the Fox series "The Following" were left disheartened after the network announced that the Kevin Bacon-led series will no longer be renewed for another season. While many fans initially remained hopeful that the show will continue in some form in another network after the showrunners expressed confidence in finding another home, it seems like fans are starting to lose hope to see Ryan Hardy back on the small screens.
A recent rumor claimed that "The Following" Season 4 will be renewed on Netflix, raising fans' hopes and expectations only to see their dreams being crushed once again after learning that the report was only a hoax.
Actor Shawn Ashmore, who played the role of Agent Mike Weston in the Fox series, recently addressed these rumors and clarified that "The Following" has not been picked up by Netflix, Venture Capital Post reported.
The outlet also cited that in a forum on Reddit, many fans and viewers of the series are already casting their doubts on the show's renewal in another network. Some fans believed that Hulu would have been the perfect home for the series, but the network ended up refusing to pick up the show because of Bacon's soaring fees. Some fans, however, took upon themselves to gather funds for the fourth season.
If "The Following" really does get renewed in one network or another, producer Alexi Hawley has already revealed what could happen next for Hardy and the rest of the cast in Season 4, Christian Today noted.
"It had to do with this pursuit of the serial killer organization while hiding Ryan's true alive status."
