"Alien," following "Prometheus" in 2012, should now have a finale.
For the past of couple years, rumors about the release of the fifth "Alien" film has been going around, but fans are left disappointed again and again to not see it happening. Although many admit that "Prometheus," which was released in 2012, appears to be a sufficient prequel to the movie franchise, they are not the only ones who think that the movie should have a proper finale, VC Post reported.
Sigourney Weaver, the actress portraying the iconic character Ellen Ripley, voiced her desire to see the conclusion of the movie franchise where she began more than thirty years ago in 1979. She also shared that the plot of the new "Alien" sequel would be related to the story of the first movie, which was released 36 years ago.
When speaking about the "thematic greed" that is very much present in the movie, she said, "A lot of corporations are still characterized by the same kind of greed [as the film's Weyland-Yutani]. It's an idea that's, unfortunately, very alive in our world," in a report by Quartz.
Fortunately, "Alien 5" is highly likely to be realized this time as Blomkamp, director of "District 9" and "Chappie," just announced that he would indeed be working on the newest project in the franchise. The 35-year-old South African director recently did an interview with IGN where he expounded on his resolve to continue the franchise saying:
"Alien is the one thing that's just... I actually think it's the first science-fiction film I ever saw. And it's my first memory of the film. So it's just emblazoned into my head in a way that... it would be a shame for me to not do it for myself. Even if it doesn't live up to want people want, for my own self I need to at least try."
For now, "Alien" fans would have to stay tuned for more details regarding the release date as "Alien 5" has not started filming yet.
