‘Jack Reacher 2’ Release Date: Set by Paramount on October 2016; ‘Underworld 5’ Follows

A new sequel is expected to hit the movie world in 2016. It looks like "Jack Reacher 2" will hit the limelight in the month of October 2016.

This new sequel will reconnect Tom Cruise to his former director, Edward Zwick from his former movie, "The Last Samurai". According to a recent post by Deadline, "Skydance is co-producing "Jack Reacher 2". For the non-followers of the first movie, it was based on the bestselling books by Lee Childs. The first Jack Reacher movie gave Paramount success. Taking in $138.3M up to domestic's profit of $80.1M.

The first movie rotates around a former MP who wanders the country, inspecting dangerous circumstances. To add on to Tom Cruise forte, McQuarrie and Cruise recently delivered Paramount's highest-grossing film of the year with "Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation" which has made close to $480M worldwide to date as detailed by Deadline. The second series will then be based on the same book but will focus on a different plot and story. According to a recent article by Variety, "The sequel will be based on Child's "Never Go Back," in which Reacher travels from South Dakota to the Virginia headquarters of the U.S. Army Military Police Corps and finds that his new commanding officer has been arrested."

Paramount positioned "Jack Reacher 2" for Oct. 21, 2016, which is a day after Warner Bros. decided to move "Geostorm" to 2017. Other movies that will be released on the 2016 date are Sony's "Underworld 5" and Universal's "Ouija 2."

It seems that Tom Cruise is lined up with a lot of projects for this year and of the coming year. Founded on a post by Variety, "Cruise declared in July that plans are in the works for a sixth "Mission Impossible" but no date has been set for shooting and no director has yet been attached."
