Sony Xperia Z5's Underwater Rate Achieved in a Controlled Condition; Don't Use Device Underwater!

Sony Xperia Z5 has been given the IP68 rating, which means that an item is protected against dust and prolonged immersion, but why is Sony advising its users the opposite?

Sony Xperia Z5, probably the one of the much-awaited phones for this year is reportedly rated to be dustproof and waterproof, IP68, the highest available. It also has a superb camera.

Sony Xperia Z5 manufacturer, however, issued a statement about submerging their phones, underwater because it may damage the phone, aside from voiding the warranty as well.

Sony Xperia Z5 were tested in a controlled environment. The new smartphone was tested for 30 minutes, while being submerged in fresh water that is 1.5 meters deep, on standby mode. Not in chlorinated water nor sea water, and the test personnel are not taking pictures as well, Tech Radar reported.

Sony, the Japanese tech giant alerted its smartphone users about water and dust protection and said, "The IP rating of your device was achieved in laboratory conditions in standby mode, so you should not use the device underwater, such as taking pictures. Do not use the device to take photos while performing any type of underwater activity, including diving or snorkeling," according to their website.

Sony Xperia Z5 guideline also cautions users about possible exposure to other type of liquids such as carbonated and juice drinks, vinegar, liquid detergent and some more. If in case, rinse the device immediately with fresh water.

"Moving or operating the device while it is submerged is not tested during the laboratory tests. There are also many environmental factors which we could not assess (e.g. water movement or water pressure changes during the movement), if a device is used underwater. Therefore we recommend not to submerge our Xperia Z5 in water," a Sony community manager commented through the Xperia Blog.

Sony Xperia Z5 variants are covered by the alert including the Compact and Premium models.
