‘Scream Queens’ Premiere Review: "Show is Worth Watching but isn't for Everyone"

"Scream Queens" premiere gets a balance review from critics, stating that the debut episode is flawed yet worth watching. This new TV show, which is categorized as a horror comedy, is said to be a missed opportunity for Fox and Ryan Murphy because of the "common and usual" issue of making it a satire.

Entertainment Weekly states that this new TV series of Fox is flawed but still worth watching. This is because the show is not sugar-coated with all its pleasant scenes, but it is truly mean and at some point sadistic. This horror comedy series is the likes of "Mean Girls," "Heathers," "Jawbreaker," and "Cruel Intentions." So there is no easy way to put the themes across but be brutal and outright spiteful- among characters of course.

"Scream Queens" without a doubt is satirizing its characters, though is still a show that showcases glamour and fashion. Thus, EW says that these characters "serve up the smartest meta-commentary about race, gender, sexuality, and class, which might make you assume that the show sides with these so-called losers."

According to Time, viewers complaining about the shows of Ryan Murphy are missing the entire point. As everyone knows, Murphy is known for his obsessive concerns about society and racial attitudes. "The showrunner's projects all put forth a with-it liberal sensibility in which line-crossing cracks about nonwhite (or handicapped, or gay, or...) people are proof of subversive wit." However, it is not only this type of audience who is also missing the point of "Scream Queens" DNA- as Murphy puts it "Heathers" meets "Halloween,"- but even the Fox channel and Murphy also are missing the opportunity to win the hearts of this type of viewers.

Admittedly, Time says that "Scream Queens" is not for everyone. This new TV series clearly wants to be a satire of horror. You can expect that some people who don't like mean and sadistic shows, and who demand "respect more loudly than ever" would definitely change their channel.
