"Minecraft" will now have a VR version.
"Minecraft" VR version was quickly diminished when Markus "Notch" Persson, "Minecraft" creator, halted his early efforts to create a version for VR. Until recently, the announcement came that it will be one of the first games that will be available for Oculus Rift.
The "Minecraft" community was surprised when the Redmond software giant announced that the Windows 10 Edition of the game will be one of the first of the several games that will be compatible with the Oculus Rift, and the second-generation Samsung Gear VR, ArsTechnica reported. Microsoft purchased the popular game from Persson, including its developer company, Mojang, on September 2014.
"Minecraft" VR version specifics are not available at the moment, but this made the fans jumping triumphantly. The game will be available from the Microsoft's Windows 10 Store once the Oculus Rift is ready in the first quarter of 2016.
John Carmack, the legendary creator of Doom and Chief Technology Officer of Oculus, had been involved in the project since early 2014. During that time, when Persson was still part of Mojang, he tweeted to Persson that all he had to do was "ship the source" and he would "make sure it runs well on you-know-what."
"I think [Minecraft is] the single most important application that we can do for virtual reality, to make sure that we have an army of fanatical, passionate supporters that will advocate why VR is great," Carmack said through PCGamesN.
"This is why you want to do some of it every single day. It's part of this infinite playability that we're currently lacking in our current set of titles. So this is a huge, huge win for me," Carmack added.
"Minecraft" has sold more than 70 million copies as of June 2015, and if only one percent of that purchase is achieved by the Oculus Rift upon its release, it is still a good 700,000 units.
