"One Piece," a new video game based on the widely popular manga and anime, is currently in development. The news was announced by game publisher Bandai Namco during Sony's press conference held at the recent Tokyo Game Show.
"One Piece: Burning Blood," the upcoming video game is a fighting game reported to be quite different from "One Piece: Pirate Warriors" and other games in the franchise. It will put more emphasis on fast-paced fights and battles, including the introduction of an "advanced battle system" that lets gamers activate skills to increase their power and even nullify normal attacks by opponents.
It will feature several of the prominent characters seen in the print and TV versions of the series, including Luffy, Ace, Crocodile, Enel, Bartolomeo, Doflamingo, Law, and Sabo. A recent issue of Shonen Jump magazine showcases new screenshots of the game, including some that show Monkey D. Luffy in a battle against Crocodile.
"One Piece's" most recently released game in the franchise to have been released in the west is "One Piece Pirate Warriors 3," which was rolled out last March 26. Developed by game studio Omega Force, it features a wide range of characters, improved gameplay, along with new systems.
"One Piece" is a hit manga series by writer and illustrator Eiichiro Oda. It begins with the execution of the King of the Pirates, Gol D. Roger, who, prior to his death, reveals that his legendary treasure One Piece will belong to anyone who manages to find it. This massive hunt marks the Great Pirate Era wherein numerous pirates, including Luffy, try to find the treasure in the Grand Line.
"One Piece: Burning Blood" is being developed by game studio Spike Chunsoft for the PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and Xbox One and is set to be released in 2016.
