Google recently launched the new LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P, which both come with the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. The technology giant confirmed that apart from the new Nexus phones, other smart phones will soon be using the new OS, including older Nexus series phones, International Business Times reported.
HTC and Motorola are among those who listed their devices as eligible for the new Android OS. Both companies are partners with Google's OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).
Aside from the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, other Nexus series will also be the first to get the latest Android OS. New OS update will be available on LG Nexus 5 (2013), Motorola Nexus 6, Asus Nexus 7 (2013), HTC Nexus 9 and Nexus Player as early as Oct. 5.
But LG Nexus 4 and Asus Nexus Nexus 7 will no longer receive the update since software support is only limited for a maximum of two years time and those who are receiving updates had three years of support.
Aside from the Nexus phones from Google, HTC was the first to announce that their devices can get the new Android Marshmallow update. The HTC One M9 and M8 will be updated by the end of 2015 while other devices that could also be updated soon are One M9+, E9+, E9, ME, E8, One M8 Eye, Butterfly 3, Desire 826, Desire 820 and Desire 816 -- all from the Taiwanese smart phone company, Yibada reported.
Meanwhile, Motorola Mobility, which was formerly associated with Google but is now owned by Lenovo, confirmed 11 Motorola devices that will get the new update. The phones included are Moto X Pure Edition in the U.S. (third gen and second gen), Moto X Style (third gen), Moto X Play, Moto X (second gen), Moto Maxx (2014), Moto Turbo (2014), Nexus 6 (2014) and Moto G (third gen and second gen), according to Vine Report.
Motorola also has a webpage to track official software upgrade which aims to assist and update Motorola device owners on the latest operating systems.
After this announcement by HTC and Motorola, it is expected that Samsung, Sony, LG, Lenovo, and Asus will also release a list of devices that will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
