Sony PlayStation 5: Sony won't Make PS4 Successor Until Needed; Gamers Don't Require More Power

Is it too early to speak about the PlayStation 5? The PS4 is hardly a third into its generation, and there are already speculations of a possible successor.

Recently, Shuhei Yoshida said that it's up to Sony if they want to make it--that is, if Sony needs more power than what the PS4 can give, then Sony will level up and make the new PlayStation 5.

Yoshida revealed in an interview with Re/code that PS5 will be launched in six or seven years.

About the possibility of a PS5 console, Yoshida explained, "It's really up to the game creators, if they still feel that we need more machine power, 'We want to realize this and that and that, but we cannot do it with the PS4' - if that's the case, there's a good reason to have PS5, so that developers can create their vision. So, we'll see."

What the public is sure about is the increase in usage of 4k gaming, plus Virtual Reality which needs just as much a stronger and powerful hardware; such would give Sony enough reason to manufacture PlayStation 5.

Just a couple of years after PS3 launched, Sony began to make PS4 in 2008. If the similar time frame is to be followed for the PlayStation 5, the new PlayStation will be in the works soon. The reality of being always on the "cutting edge" with innovation also runs the risk of more unstable systems, something that developers of consoles should be conscious of.

Right now, consoles like PS4 works great with the power they have, although there are limitations, and they continually impress and give the gameplay that players expect. As per Yoshida, right now they don't need to develop PlayStation 5, and developers aren't after more power (yet). The gamers also agree that right now they don't need a PS5 yet.
