"Game of Thrones" stars Natalie Dorman (Maraery Tyrell), Keisha Castle-Hughes (Obara Sand), and Finn Jones (Ser Loras Tyrell) were present at the first day of the ongoing New York Comic Con. As The Hollywood Reporter recounted, "Game of Thrones" was a constant topic, and the three sat on the panel to talk about their hit show.
Finn Jones shared his well-thought out theory as to how the series, both for the books and the show, would end. "I think there will be a big battle between Ice and Fire. My theory is they're going to have to dissolve the Iron Throne to defeat the White Walkers ... and then I think out of the ashes will come the tree people, they'll grow [the new world]," the actor said.
His interesting theory is not without merits. Martin's first book in the series is, after all, entitled "A Song of Ice and Fire," and the story now seems to be gearing towards the battle between White Walkers and men. Daenerys' dragons are now fully grown, albeit wild. Once tamed, they could help in the battle against the walkers.
Jones' statement about dissolving the Iron Throne to defeat the White Wallkers is also quite plausible. It was already revealed that Valyrian steel can kill White Walkers. In one episode, Jon Snow even foreshadowed that Westeros simply doesn't have enough Valyrian blades anymore. He must have forgotten that the Iron Throne, according to the books, is comrpised of more than 1,000 Valyrian steel swords.
The "tree people" the actor was referring to are the Children of the Forest, which in the books were one of the original inhabitants of Westeros. Bran Stark has already met some of them in the show's fourth season.
While Martin has not finished writing the ending of his bestselling series, he has expressed that the ending will be somewhat bittersweet, and not as brutal as the show's beginnings. In an interview with Observer last August, the author said, "I've said before that the tone of the ending that I'm going for is bittersweet. I mean, it's no secret that Tolkien has been a huge influence on me, and I love the way he ended 'Lord of the Rings.' It ends with victory, but it's a bittersweet victory."
Jones, whose character is currently being held in prison by the Faith militants for his homosexual acts, may be generous in dishing out theories, but was very mindful about spilling out spoilers. His co-star Keisha Castle-Hughes slipped when asked who she wanted her character to interact with, to which she replied, "Jon Snow." Jones quickly retorted, "He's dead, you couldn't possibly work with him."
