Netflix did not miss the opportunity to promote its two Marvel shows at the New York Comic Con last Saturday. Their hit series "Daredevil" is set to return for its second season next year, and fans at the convention were treated to an exclusive teaser footage, introducing Elektra and Punisher for the first time.
Variety reports that the teaser began with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) sitting in a church. He says in a voiceover, "Why do I still feel guilty?" Father Lantom tells him that "guilt can be a good thing," as it is a reminder that there's still much work to be done. The scene cuts to Matt in full Daredevil costume, and the unveiling of Elektra. Next, it shows Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) looking at an x-ray of a school that eerily looks like The Punisher's symbol. Finally, Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher, is revealed, walking down a hospital hall with a gun in his hand and mutters, "Beg," as a cliffhanger.
After, Doug Petrie, the show's co-creator, took the stage and addressed the fans. "With the Punisher and Elektra, we get to take it darker and further ... The stuff you want to see, we want to see, and we can't wait to show it to you," he said.
Elektra will be played by Elodie Yung, who holds a black belt in Karate in real life. The Punisher will be portrayed by Jon Bernthal. Both actors were expressed their excitement over being a part of the "Daredevil" world.
"It's intense, it's exciting. I can't be more happy, really," said Yung.
"I know how important this character is to you guys," Bernthal said. "I look at this as a huge honor, a huge responsibility ... I give you my word, I'm going to give everything I have."
Meanwhile, Netflix's other Marvel show, "Jessica Jones" starring Krysten Ritter, will premiere next month. While it was previously announced that "Matrix" star Carrie Ann Moss will be part of the show, her character has remained a mystery. Marvel's Head of TV Jeph Loeb finally revealed who Moss will be playing: Jeryn Hogarth, a high-profile lawyer in the Marvel universe, who has also worked for the father of Iron Fist in the comics. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show has apparently decided on a gender-flip by casting Moss, as the attorney was a male in the comics.
The actress, who was also present in the event, gushed about her inclusion in the series. She said, "The writing is impeccable, the storyline is so rich. As someone who has embodied that female warrior action [character in The Matrix], to see Krysten Ritter doing it on another level [as Jessica] ... I'm thrilled."
Another important character included in the show is Luke Cage (Mike Colter), who will have his own series soon. "There was no way to tell the story of Jessica Jones without telling a little bit of the story of the man she someday falls in love with," Loeb said, who also revealed that "Luke Cage" is now on its initial production stage.
Much to the fans' surprise, the event concluded with a special screening of "Jessica Jones" full pilot episode.
"Jessica Jones" premieres on Netflix on Nov. 20, while "Daredevil" returns for its season two in 2016.
