‘Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans’ Episode 3 Review: ‘Glorious Demise’ Gets A-Rating; Delivers a Dramatic Plot & Gripping War

"Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans" episode 3 is entitled "Glorious Demise," and gets an A-Rating from critics. It is noted that the 3rd episode delivers a dramatic plot.

Anime News Network says that the 3rd episode of "Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans" presents a spellbinding portrayal of war that are all fresh and not following the pattern of previous Gundam series. The viewers are left on tenterhooks. This current episode has raised the "body count once again while establishing a new balance of power that better shows the main cast's true colors."

Aside from the plot, "Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans" gives fans a fresh hero, Mikazuki Augus. He is described as cold or jaded like no other. He is very efficient in what he does, and delivers what is expected of him. When he says he's going to wipe out the enemies, he's definitely going to "kill exactly as many people as he says he will." The "Iron-Blooded Orphans" hero is totally far better than Heero Yuy, the hero of Gundam Wing.

It is also noted further that the hero of "Iron-Blooded Orphans" has no moral conflict. He doesn't struggle with anything that is commanded of him to do. In the previous episode, Orga ordered him to kill someone. He did what he was told to do. "It's not that Mikazuki has a passion for killing, but 'I was told by Orga to kill you' is all the explanation he needs to give to Crank."

On the other hand, Reno Gazette Journal highlights the theme of "Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans." The magazine says that the new series of Gundam emphasizes the burden of responsibility. This message about responsibility is in fact being permeated in the entire 3rd episode. Most especially in the Kudelia's situation, she realized that she's powerless in applying her ideals. Orga also had realized that "gaining freedom isn't as easy as liberating as it seems."

The storyline, characters, and themes of "Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans" are satisfying in the 3rd episode. It is safe to say that "Glorious Demise" has met the expectation of the viewer. RGJ hopes that the show will continue to fulfill the anticipations of its fans.
