FX 'Married' Sitcom Cancelled; Creator Andrew Gurland Confirms No Season 3 for Nat Faxon and Judy Greer

FX comedy series "Married" was not renewed for season 3 by the network. Andrew Gurland, the show's creator, shared the news to the fans of the show.

"There will be no season three of @MarriedFX. Thank you @FXNetworks for the opportunity and thank you to all the fans. It's been a blast," Gurland tweeted.

"Married" season 1 was a success and naturally was renewed for a second season. Based on the numbers, there were 1.12 million viewers during its first season. However, the show's viewership plummeted to 300,000 by season 2 finale.

FX president John Landgraf decided to cancel the show following the stats. Landgraf's formula for the second season was its ratings and reviews, thinking he can always overturn a two-thirds vote, but the network still has the final word, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The series debuted in July 2014 and featured Nat Faxon (Russ Bowman) and Judy Greer (Lina Bowman), a typical married couple that deals regularly with kids, finances and a diminishing sex life. Brett Gellman (A.J.) and Jenny Slate (Jess) are also on the show. In season 2, Sarah Burns (Abby ) joined the "Married" cast.

"Married" had a few changes during its second season. Slate's role was reduced because of another pilot comedy show with the same network, while Greer and Faxon's characters went into a career change. However, those actions were not sufficient to pull the show's ratings up.

Meanwhile, FX younger network FXX is somehow having the same fate with its comedy series, "You're The Worst." The anti-romantic comedy was launched in FX then it was moved to FXX after its 13th episode. The ratings for the said show are not that high even with the mixed reviews.

FXX network caters to young adults with age range of 18-34, while FX is for advertiser-coveted adults, 18-49.

"Married" joined fellow FX sitcom "Comedians" which was cancelled in July 2015 after one season.
