'Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets' Cast, Update: Rihanna, Cara Delevingne to Star in $180M ‘Valerian and Laureline’ Inspired Movie

Rihanna and Cara Delevingne are confirmed to star in the upcoming science fiction movie, titled "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets." With a working budget of $180 million, the "Valerian and Laureline" inspired film is expected to be a big hit.

"Diamond" singer and actress Rihanna has officially joined the cast of the "Valerian" graphic adaptation. Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne are already on board in the science fiction epic.

The comic book adaptation is the American version of the classic French fiction "Valerian and Laureline," which was co-written by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres. The movie will be directed by French director Luc Besson, who recently revealed his latest project during the Comic-Con in San Diego in July.

The "The Fifth Element" director has presented several eccentric albeit interesting ideas about the upcoming movie, People reported. According to the site, the "Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets" is comparable to "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," but with the element of outer space.

DeHaan will play as Valerian, while Delevingne will portray his redhead associate named Laureline. The movie takes place around the 28th century, and follows the tale of a time traveling agent, Valerian, who is sent to a travel to an outer space kingdom, Arts Beat reported.

"Bitch Better Have My Money" singer Rihanna will play a major role as hinted by Besson through an Instagram post, in which he mentioned, "B**** Better Have My Money." To many, it suggests that the singer will be given a major part in the film. If this happens, it will be Rihanna's second time to be cast in a non-animated movie, the first one being the action war motion picture, "Battleship."

"Anna Karenina" star Delevingne has also been a part of several big screen hits in 2015, one of which is the movie adaptation of John Green's bestselling novel, "Paper Towns." She was also featured in the fantasy adventure movie, "Pan."

The cinematic release of the "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" is set on July 21, 2017.
