Nicki Minaj's life story is coming to ABC Family as a true-to-life comedy series, and the network is in search of a qualified actress to portray her younger version.
ABC Family has recently released a statement (via The Futon Critic) announcing that the network is currently conducting online auditions for a young Nicki Minaj to star in its upcoming series, which will revolve around the superstar's life.
The "Feeling Myself" singer will serve as an executive producer for the half-hour comedy show based on her family's immigration from their home country, Trinidad and Tobago, to the United States during the early 1990s.
The show will focus on her childhood days in Queens with her family, and the evolution of her style and music that led to her rise to fame. The series' production will be in New York.
The pilot was written by Kate Angelo and Bernie Mac, who will also co-write and co-produce the show along with Minaj.
"Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches," said Karey Burke, ABC Family's executive vice president of programming and development.
The "Anaconda" singer's past acting and voice gigs include "Ice Age: Continental Drift" and "Steven Universe." She also had a supporting role in "The Other Woman" alongside actress Cameron Diaz.
Interested applicants for Minaj's new comedy series can download the free Disney Applause Application, select 'ABC Family's Online Open Call' and follow instructions. Aspirants can also view the script and upload their audition videos. All materials submitted will be accepted until Nov. 15.
Minaj's fans immediately flooded social media with suggestions of a suitable candidate. However, Minaj wanted to cast someone who is "unknown," according to IB Times.
For the first time in history, ABC Family is taking a different approach in finding an actor for its show. The network will be known by a new name "Freeform" by the time the series is released.
