"Halo 5: Guardians" has now earned $400 million in sales worldwide for hardware-bundles alone, making it the biggest release among all the installments in the "Halo" franchise.

The "Halo" series started way back in November 2001 with the release of "Halo: Combat Evolved." Only five years later, the franchise has managed to have a lifetime earning of more than $5 billion, all thanks to the sensational success of "Halo 5: Guardians."

Xbox head, Phil Spencer, told Variety, "The success of Halo 5: Guardians is a testament to the innovative work from the entire team at 343 Industries to bring this installment to Xbox One and the incredible community of fans who have come to love the story, characters and gameplay central to the franchise."

"The game represents all the possibilities of Xbox One and has earned its place as the anchor title in the greatest holiday games line-up in Xbox history," he added.

"Halo 5" is not only making all this money at once to reach the high revenue. Gamers would have to be playing it for countless of hours. Players of "Halo 5: Guardians" are logging more than 21 million hours, which puts the game as Xbox One's most-played for the week.

"Halo 5" is also the recipient of the Guinness World Record for being the most-watched video game release broadcast. The "Halo 5: Live" launch broadcast happened on Oct. 26, which lasted for six hours, and was live-streamed via the Xbox Official Channel on YouTube. The launch culminated at 12 midnight EDT, then the game was officially available for purchase.

"Halo 5: Live" claimed more than 330,000 exclusive streams plus 5.5 million views towards the end of its first week. Guinness described the broadcast as having set a precedent for other game publishers and demonstrated a new way to launch games to wider audiences.
