Archie Comics' 'Riverdale' Update: The CW Adds Major Character Changes To Live Action TV Series

The CW revamps major castings in Archie Comics' "Riverdale" live-action TV series.

TV Line exclusively reported on the updates about the modern take on the beloved high school characters from the famed "Archie Comics." The upcoming CW series, which is currently in development, joins the roster of the network's successful TV adaptations of various comic book characters.

Showrunner and executive producer Greg Berlanti, who worked behind "Arrow," "The Flash," "Supergirl" and "Legends of Tomorrow," originally developed the series for FOX before heading to The CW. Archie Comics' Chief Creative Officer Robert Aguirre-Sacasa will write the script for "Riverdale."

According to the TV Line, the network will give new life to the casting of comic book characters including Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead.

The premise will center on sophomore Archie Andrews, who is said to be a "pumped handsome boy." He previously had a construction job before the start of the school. He finds its hard to choose between his love for his passion and the expectations of both his father and football coach.

Betty Cooper is known for having a long-time crush on Archie and Veronica's new friend. She is described as "eager-to-please, wholesome and studious." However, behind the "perfect student" persona, she is currently dependent on prescription drugs and has issues with her confidence. Aside from that, her problems also continue at home.

Veronica Lodge, on the other hand, will come back to their town for a reinvention. It was after a high-profile scandal in New York has involved her father. She is described as "extremely intelligent, self-confident and immediately popular." The series is looking for a Latina actress to play the role of "Veronica."

Lastly, Jughead Jones is described as the "emo-heartthrob" ex-best friend of Archie. The producers are looking for a hearing-impaired actor for the role.

Archie Comics' "Riverdale" will premiere on The CW.
