Apple iPad Pro vs Microsoft Surface Pro 4: A Comparison Between the Two Latest Hybrids

Apple's iPad Pro and Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 are currently the two premium hybrids available in the market today. Both can be used as a tablet and a laptop.

Physically, the iPad Pro is taller than the Surface Pro. The iPad Pro is measured at 8.68 by 12 and is 0.27 inches thick. It also comes with iOS 9. The Surface Pro, on the otherhand, is measured at 7.93 by 11.5 as well as is 0.33 inches thick. It is slightly thicker over the iPad Pro because of the built-in USB 3.0 port. It also comes preloaded with the latest Windows 10 operating system, PC Mag reports.

With a massive display area of 12.9-inch, the iPad Pro offers a Retina display and a fabulous 2,732 by 2,048 resolution, with a density of 264 ppi. Meanwhile, the Surface Pro 4 offers a slightly smaller screen, a 12.3-inch touch display, with a 2,736 by 1,824 screen resolution, but one that is denser, at 267 ppi. It also displays vivid colors, thanks to Microsoft's latest PixelSense technology.

A $129 Type Cover is available for the Surface Pro 4. It contains a nicely spread out keyboard, a glass trackpad, a mouse, and a built-in fingerprint sensor. Apple is offering a $169 Smart Keyboard; although it lacks a touchpad, it offers integrated-shortcuts for iOS 9.

Both tablets have a stylus. It comes originally with the Surface Pro 4 and offers 1,024 touch levels. An eraser works well on the other end, plus switchable tips. The Apple Pencil, on the other hand, costs $99.

Color wise, it will only be in Silver for Microsoft's, while Apple's comes in Gray, Silver and Gold.

Variants of the Surface Pro 4 are offered with Intel Core M3, Core i5, or Core i7 processors, with a minimum of 4GB of RAM and upgradable to 16GB. A 2.25 GHz A9X processor with 4GB of RAM is loaded with the iPad Pro, according to an article by Tech Spot.

The tablet from Microsoft starts at $899 and $1,029 along with the keyboard. Apple's retail price is $799 for the tablet alone, and $1,067 with the pencil and keyboard.
