David Hasselhoff has shocked fans recently with the video he posted on YouTube declaring his name change to "David Hoff."
Hasselhoff, the 63-year old actor-producer of the hit 1990s series "Baywatch," has been popularly called or known as "The Hoff" throughout the years.
Thus, his video clip on YouTube showing the frame of his legal certificate with his apparently new name, "David Hoff," has quickly caught attention of various media outlets since the video was posted on Nov. 12, Thursday.
Hasselhoff will now be known as "David Hoff" after he opted to drop "Hassel" from his last name.
"Big news today and a massive relief for me," the actor posted on his Twitter. "I hope everyone can understand... it feels great!" he added, while posting the link of the controversial video.
In the clip, the American TV actor was holding a big frame and said, "I've been wanting to drop the Hassel from my life for years. Now I have made it official."
According to ET Online, the legendary actor "legally" changed his name. It was also reported that the amendment was for an Aussie ad campaign.
However, Us Weekly reported that Hoff's name change was not clarified, whether the actor legally changed his name or was just reinventing his career. One rep said that Hoff was just playing around and there will be further exposé in the next few hours.
Although Hoff mentioned he had wanted to change his name for years, the identity change supposedly should have begun at the time when the actor was filming "Knight Rider." In 2014, the 80's TV show was recreated by "Knight Rider" himself, and also featured the voice of pop star Justin Bieber as "Kitt."
Hoff was cast in "Sharknado 3" film released early this year. The actor also starred in "Ted 2," which also hit theaters this year.
