'Days of Our Lives' Cast & Spoilers: Stefano to be Killed Off, Actor Joseph Mascolo to Retire?

New spoilers for "Days of Our Lives" warn another horrific death in the soap opera, and this time it will be a central character namely, Stefano DiMera, played by actor Joseph Mascolo.

Celebrity Dirty Laundry reports that Mascolo, who is now 86 years old, is already feeling his age. During "Days of Our Lives" 50th Anniversary celebration last Nov. 7, the actor was even seen being wheeled on the red carpet.

For health reasons, the show's producers have deemed it best to let the veteran actor retire. Reports state that the show has already filmed his death scene, and that the re-entrance of Andre (Thaao Penghlis), Stefano's son, means the character's legacy will be passed on.

In the soap opera, Stefano is the patriarch of the DiMera family. He is known to be a shrewd and ruthless businessman who has ties to organized crime groups and is an iconic villain in the daytime soap.

Mascalo has played the role since 1982, one of the longest-standing cast members of the show. In a previous interview with About Entertainment, Mascalo admitted that he has requested some downtime with regards to filming schedules.

"I'm on two days a week, and that's maximum. I told them that's what I wanted," the actor said. "After what I've done all these years, I told them, 'I will only work twice a week.' They said, 'Okay, Fine. Whatever the hell you want.'"

Following Stefano's death, fans can only expect more drama as the DiMera family fights for power struggle. According to Celebrity Dirty Laundry, other "DOOL" spoilers reveal that Bo (Peter Reckwel) will find out that he's terminally ill. Once he dies, Hope will discover that the DiMeras are behind Bo's kidnapping. This could result to another epic battle between the Brady and the DiMera families.

"Days of Our Lives" airs Mondays to Fridays, 1 p.m. on NBC.
