'Legion' TV Series Update: Producer Simon Kinberg Describes It as 'the Breaking Bad' in Comic Book; Promises to Be Completely Original

It has been a month since Fox has announced that 2 X-men characters, "Legion" and "Hellfire," will have spin-off TV series. Simon Kinberg, the producer of the shows, reveals an update of the status of the upcoming TV series projects.

Comic Book Resources reports that Simon Kinberg revealed some fresh information about what is brewing with "Legion" after the initial announcement was made last month. According to the director, there would be boundaries that would be pushed as the life of David Charles Haller will be brought into the small screen.

Kinberg said in his interview with Collider that since "Legion" will be aired at FX, audience could expect that they won't be watching what they usually watch on TV. This is because Kinberg and Hawley will not produce this X-men TV series like what other networks air during primetime.

From the report of Collider, it states that the story of "Legion" will focus on David Haller, the son of Charles Xavier who is diagnosed as a schizophrenic. Haller, who later on called Legion, "has been in and out of hospitals his entire life until a strange encounter with a fellow patient confronts him with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might just be real."

Kinberg together with Hawley promised that "Legion" will be something different from other superhero TV series. Report says that the team who will be working on this TV series will have the opportunity to try something distinct and unusual from those comics that are adapted in TV series. In fact, Kinberg equates this upcoming superhero TV series on FX to "one of the stalwarts of TV's Second Golden Age."

"What I'm seeing on 'Legion' with [developer Noah Hawley] and FX is an intent to do something completely original in the genre, in some ways to sort of blow up the paradigm of comic book or superhero stories and almost do our 'Breaking Bad' of superhero stories," Simon Kinberg explained.

As for "Hellfire," the team of the TV series is working hard as they are preparing to shoot its pilot episode. Both upcoming TV series will have 10 or 13 episode for its freshman season.
