‘Assassin's Creed' Movie Update: Production Reveals New Details about Michael Fassbender's Character

The "Assassin's Creed" movie is currently in its production phase and insiders divulged new information regarding Michael Fassbender's character.

Fassbender, who plays the lead character in the game-turned-to-movie flick, is rumored to be playing two characters in the film, the Franchise Herald stated.

In a tweet by Azaizia Aymar, the Head of Assasin's Creed Content, it was revealed that "Assassin's Creed" Callum Lynch is not the only character the German-Irish actor will play. Fassbender will also play Aguilar, Lynch's ancestor, in the movie version of the highly popular game series.

However, Aymar also mentioned that three characters found in the games will not appear in the movie. These are Altair, Connor and Ezio. On the other hand, he said fans will also get to see a few familiar faces in the upcoming film.

Regarding the storyline, the "X-Men: First Class" star is concerned with the possibility that the film might overwhelm moviegoers, especially those who are not exactly followers of the PC game. The 38-year-old actor said, "That's always the challenge of something that's so dense, to really find something and pare it down and basically, there are so many elements to it, so trying to translate that to an audience, you have to pick key things."

Both Aymar and the "Steve Jobs" actor reiterated that the movie's storyline was simplified so it would be easier for people to understand and be engaged.

Fassbender, who serves as a producer of the movie as well, also mentioned his plans of turning "Assassin's Creed" into a franchise film, according to Cross Map. Yet, this will depend on how much the first film will be received by moviegoers. Given that it is a PC game, the material is extensive which makes it ideal for more than just one movie.

Ubisoft, the developer of the game, made announcement that production has already been ongoing since September. It took a while before someone thought of making the game into a movie but Fassbender said developing the script was not an easy task.

"Assassin's Creed" is slated for release on Dec. 21, 2016.
