NBA News 2015: Charlotte Hornets’ Head Coach Steve Clifford Agrees to Three-Year Extension with MJ's Team

Steve Clifford, 54, has been the Charlotte Hornets' head coach since 2013. With the team's owner Michael Jordan being satisfied with his system, the head coach signed another multi-year contract.

The Charlotte Hornets have had a good season start with 8-6 and a good chance to be a playoff team in the Eastern Conference. It is through Clifford's effort to change up the team's offense in the offseason. The team focused more on using 3-pointers and the results have been really good despite Michael Kidd-Gilchrist being out for the season, as reported by CBS Sports.

Clifford has an overall record of 84-94 with the team. He was able to bring the team to playoffs in his first year but the key players like Kidd-Gilchrist and Al Jefferson's injuries put them out of the postseason last year.

Under Jordan's ownership, the Charlotte Hornets have had a history of quick coaches' turnovers. Clifford came after Mike Dunlap who got fired after just one season with the then-Bobcats team. The Hornets' head coach has been probably the best coach for the team.

Clifford spent years as a scout and assistant coach working for the Lakers, Knicks, Magic and Rockets before being hired by the Charlotte Hornets as a head coach in 2013. He is a smart and adaptive head coach and seems to be a perfect fit for the team. Extending his contract for another three years is a smart move by the Charlotte Hornets and Jordan to secure team's stability.

According to At The Hive, there are teams in the league who would like to get Clifford once his contract with the Charlotte Hornets expires, but because of the extension, it looks like they are going to have to wait longer to get him.
