'World of Warcraft' Legion Expansion Updates & Release: Will Include Better Graphics, Gnome Hunters and Mechanical Pets

"World of Warcraft" is getting a major upgrade with its sixth expansion pack entitled "Legion," slated for release next year. Along with other notable additions, the expansion pack will also include a huge visual upgrade and fun add-ons such as gnome hunters and mechanical pets.

Polygon posted the screenshots a Reddit user named Kastel197 took of the game's different locations running on an alpha test. When compared with the same locations from the current version, "Legion" graphics are significantly sharper.

In addition, Blizzard has recently announced other fun add-ons to the game, such as gnome hunters and mechanical pets.

"Long at the forefront of cutting-edge technology in Azeroth, the inventive gnomes are finally ready to break out the big guns. Their propensity for things that go 'bang' and knack for high-tech weapons like rocket launchers, high-powered rifles, and death rays make them perfect candidates for hunting down prey," the announcement reads.

Hunters in the previous and current editions of World of Warcraft have the ability to tame other animals and use these pets as part of their offensive capabilities. "Legion" will also introduce new animals: mechanical pets.

"Most mechanical pets will be challenging to tame, requiring you to first locate them and then use your Hunter abilities in unusual ways. (You didn't think we'd make it easy, did you?)," Blizzard stated on its blog post. "For example, one rare mechanostrider requires you to create a special punch card that grants access to a closed section of Gnomeregan (we hope you remember the way). Once you locate the clockwork creature, you'll then need to figure out how to overload its circuits. Solve the puzzle, and you'll have this magnificent mechanized minion striding by your side."

According to Eurogamer, "World of Warcraft" hit an all-time low this year, losing around 1.5 million in the second quarter of 2015 alone. These upgrades and fun additions are welcome changes to build momentum for the game again.

"World of Warcraft" Legion expansion is set to arrive in summer 2016.
