OnePlus One, OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X will be receiving Google's 6.0 Marshmallow. For years, OnePlus, the Chinese phone company, has been known for using its own operating system on its phones.
OnePlus has recently announced through its own forum that three of its smartphones, the OnePlus One, OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X, will be receiving the newest Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The company also said that it cannot say any specific date at the moment. However, based on speculations, the update may happen as early as the first quarter of 2016, Vine Report stated.
OnePlus 2, the company's current flagship phone, might also receive the latest Android OS around the same time period. Users of the said phone have been pressuring OnePlus to develop an API package for its fingerprint sensor, so the company opted to roll out the standard Android M, which already contains the said API.
OnePlus smartphones are using the custom built OxygenOS, which is a modified Android OS. Currently, the company will be rolling out OxygenOS 2.1.2, which is the same as the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
Despite the transition, OnePlus will still push through with its OxygenOS 2.1.2 OTA (over-the-air) update for the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X users. The company also reminded its users that the update will be gradual and will take some time before it reaches all of its users.
The latest OyxgenOS 2.1.2 update is said to bring in improvements for the OnePlus 2, which includes an improved UX for preview in camera, as well as performance improvements for the whole phone. Furthermore, Russian and Turkish language support, icon customization support, and several fixes for third-party camera apps are also included in the update.
OnePlus does not want to create an API for the fingerprint sensor for the OnePlus 2 smartphone, since they are already gearing up to switch to the standard Android OS, NDTV Gadgets reported.
