"The Walking Dead" season 6 is currently on hold until Feburary 2016. Based on its midseason finale aired last Sunday, Nov. 29, things are not looking great for the remaining survivors. Deanna Monroe (Tovah Feldshuh), the group's ex-leader, was killed off, Alexandria gets overrun with walkers and, as a dreaded teaser, Negan is coming!
Naturally, fans are on their toes as to what will happen to their favorite characters when the show resumes.
Robert Kirkman, creator of "The Walking Dead" comics, breaks his silence and gives fans a glimpse of what is to come.
"We're definitely going to have to wrap up this monumental attack on Alexandria," Kirkman told the NY Times. "We'll pick up moments after Sam is asking for his mother and we'll see what the consequences are of that."
As for the infamous villain Negan and his band of saviors, the author confirms that they will be bringing terrible news for the remaining survivors. Although, Kirkman insisted on keeping details of his arrival a secret.
"This character Negan, whose name was mentioned last night is a huge threat - he's a huge part of the comic book and he's going to be introduced into the show very soon. I won't say when. That's going to change things in a really radical and terrifying way," he said.
In the comics, Negan is known for ultimately killing Glenn (Steven Yeun) off. Now fans are wondering if Glenn will suffer the same fate in the TV series.
"There are certain scenes in the comic book that are the core of what makes 'The Walking Dead' 'The Walking Dead,' so those scenes will get adapted directly," Kirkman revealed, but said that the TV show has and will make necessary changes for the viewers.
"The connective tissue between those scenes is very malleable," he added.
Glenn has just narrowly escaped his near-death bout with a horde of walkers, which upset many viewers. Losing him again would be devastating, and Kirkman agrees. He assures fans that if and when Glenn dies, it is for the best of the story.
"Look, we know that all of these characters are beloved and the thing is, the writers and producers love the characters as much as the audience does," Kirkman said. "As much as I joke in interviews, we're never offing characters in a callous way or having fun when we're doing it. We know how painful it would be for the audience to lose Glenn because that's how painful it would be for us."
Kirkman created the world of "The Walking Dead" in 2003. He still writes all issues to this day, and serves an executive producer for the TV series. "The Walking Dead" season 6 episode 9 will air on Feb. 14, 2016 on AMC.
