Volvo, the Swedish automotive giant, has recently launched its 2017 premium sedan, the S90. This will directly compete with some of Germany's finest models, the BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6.
Volvo is sticking to its plan on revitalizing its whole fleet of models. It started out with the XC90 SUV, which garnered much praise from the general public. Sales figures were also showing good numbers, especially in the US market where it almost doubled its sales record, CNET reported.
The latest S90 is in a way similar to the XC90 SUV. Some components like the powertrain, suspension, and sub-frames are almost identical. It is like the sedan version of the XC90 and it was revealed at a press event at the Volvo HQ in Gothenburg. The general public will be able to personally see the S90 at the Detroit Auto show which will be held next month, according to Motoring.
Under the hood, the S90 might be powered by Volvo's own T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid engine, which is a combination of a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine supported by two electric motors. It is capable of producing 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque. Future owners will have the option to use it as a purely electric car or as a hybrid, CNET wrote.
The S90 also comes in with a lot of features, especially in making its passengers safe. The Swedish luxury sedan comes with an enhanced Pilot Assist that can create "gentle steering inputs to keep it in its lane and still keeping its speed with the adaptive cruise control."
The City Safety feature was also improved; aside from detecting pedestrians, the S90 can also detect large animals such as horses, deer, or moose. It then acts appropriately, alerting the driver and offering brake assist to avoid impact.
