When Marvel released the trailer for "Captain America: Civil War" last November, fans were excited to see other Marvel superheroes, namely, Black Widow and Iron Man, teaming up with Captain America. For a long time, there have been rumors circulating that Spider-Man will also join the cast, but Marvel has maintained its silence. Now, did Iron Man himself confirm the news?
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Robert Downey, Jr. a.k.a. Iron Man, may have slipped up.
"[Don Cheadle and I] are now like the old guard, and our storyline carries real weight just because of our history in the [canon]. But we're also looking around like, 'Who thought that Falcon and Black Panther and Ant-Man and now Spider-Man?'" Downey said.
Marvel Studios has just recently cast 19-year-old Tom Holland as Spider-Man, replacing Andrew Garfield. Marvel also announced that he will appear in one of its titles, before his stand-alone film slated for July 2017. Many fans assumed it will be in "Civil War," since Peter Parker played an integral role in the storyline of the 2006 comic book written by Mark Millar.
Furthermore, sources at EW reported that they spotted a stuntman wearing a red and blue suit during a large battle scene. Of course, fans can recognize the blue and red outfit as the iconic Spider-Man suit.
Holland himself commented on the new "Captain America" trailer.
"It blew my mind," the young actor told IGN. "It's awesome. It's a wicked trailer."
However, Chris Evans, who plays Captain America himself, was quick to douse the fans' excitement.
"You never know with Marvel," the actor said. "Sometimes they shoot things and then don't use them.")
Likewise, Sebastian Stan, who plays as the Winter Soldier, coyingly said, "I have no idea who Tom Holland is. I really don't."
"Captain America: Civil War" is expected to be an epic battle between Marvel's superheroes. It is slated for cinematic premiere on May 6, 2016. Watch the trailer below:
