'The Blacklist' Gets Season 4 Renewal, Creator Spills Season 3 Spoilers

"The Blacklist" is still halfway through season 3, and NBC has already picked it up for another season. According to The Wrap, the show's creator, Jon Bokenkamp, confirmed the news via a podcast interview.

"We knew about that a while ago, it's one of those things that's hard to keep quiet. But yes, we're renewed through the fourth season," Bokenkamp announced, adding that they still have "a lot of story to tell."

"The Blacklist" is a crime drama that follows protagonist Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader), a former fugitive included in the FBI's Most Wanted list. Red now helps the FBI identifying a "blacklist" of politicians, mobsters, spies, and international terrorists. Actress Megan Boone joins him as Elizabeth "Liz" Keen, his partner investigator.

The show is currently on its mid-season break and is scheduled to return on Jan. 7. During its mid-season finale aired on Nov. 19, fans saw Red and Liz, who were on the run all season long, finally in the custody of the FBI. However, the "care package" that will hopefully clear Liz's name was also confiscated, making their situation stickier in the next half of season 3.

Bokenkamp did not exactly share what was inside the important briefcase, but teased that the storyline will be one to watch out for.

"What is in that case is key," the producer told Entertainment Weekly. "As Red had said, the 'care package,' as we're calling it, is critical to the mission of freeing Liz. The care package is now in the hands of not our task force, but the FBI, who captured Liz. They've now lost one of their key ingredients in the recipe and it's going to be a bit of a mess getting it back."

Meanwhile, NBC has also recently renewed other hit shows from its lineup, including "Chicago Fire," "Chicago PD," and the television rookie "Blindspot."
