‘Game of Thrones’ Snubbed by the Golden Globes: Fans and Awards Show Viewers Shocked with the HBO Series One Nomination

The Golden Globe Awards nominees were announced on Thursday morning, Dec. 10, and in spite of an outlandish "Game of Thrones" season 5, the series just got one nomination, much to the surprise of many people.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which organizes the Golden Globes, revealed nominations and the award-giving body may have overlooked "Game of Thrones" season 5. The popular HBO series only gets one chance at winning the Globes, under the Best Drama for Television category.

However, Winter Is Coming pointed out that there will be a slim chance for the "Game of Thrones" series to bag the said award given that its other competitors are all newbies and are nominated for other categories as well. These dramas include "Narcos," "Empire," "Mr. Robot" and "Outlander." For others, they would see the addition of the show to the list of nominees as just obligatory instead of deserved because it is the only old series in a sea of new shows.

Peter Dinklage, who plays the witty Tyrion Lannister, almost always gets a nomination for Best Supporting Actor. However, this year, Dinklage is out of the list. This snubbing is somehow understandable given that Tyrion did not have much of an impact in season 5 compared to previous seasons.

On the other hand, Lena Heady, not receiving a nomination is a shocker, remarked Entertainment Weekly. The actress did a brilliant job portraying Cersei Lannister especially during the "Walk of Shame" that is why although she is not a favorite character, the actress should have at least been given a nod for her acting skills.

The recently concluded Emmys bestowed the most wins to "Game of Thrones" season 5 not just for 2014 but since the award-giving body started. This is another reason why, the one nomination is found by most people curious.

It remains to be seen whether the HBO TV series will win the award come Golden Globes night on Jan. 10. Until then, fans could only cross their fingers.
