Former "General Hospital" star Jason Thompson will soon debut as the icon role of Billy Abbott on "The Young And The Restless" on Jan. 14, 2016.
During Thompson's interview with Soap Opera Digest, he revealed the real reason he decided to hang up his scrubs and let go of his role as Dr. Patrick Drake on "General Hospital." Thompson played the role of Dr. Drake for 10 years.
Jason shared in his interview that it was a tough decision for him to leave "General Hospital." He then revealed that five months ago he met up with Jill Farren Phelps, executive producer of "Y&R", which was the time she expressed her interest in hiring him to be part of "Y&R."
It has been reported that at that time there was no specific character yet for Thompson but they already promised to give him a good storyline. Jason also explained that if Burgess Jenkins did not decide to leave Billy Abbott's role, then he would have fought harder for the show to give him a good compelling storyline and more airtime.
Thompson also made it clear that he was not burned out that's why he decided to leave "GH" and even said "I love what I do." However, he also said that he was not sure if there is something that "GH" could have done in order for him to stay on the show. Jason wants career growth which means he needs a new and more challenging character to portray.
Soap Opera Spy reported that when it comes to Jason's new role as Billy Abbott he is really nervous as to how "The Young And The Restless" fans will receive him. Jason is also anxious how he will be able to measure up to Billy Abbott. But at the same time, he is also excited for the endless possibilities and new opportunities that will come his way as he take on the new role.
It was previously reported that Phelps shared that he feels lucky to be able to work again with Jason. Phelps said, "Jason is an exceptional actor and a wonderful human being. He will bring so much to the character and we're thrilled to welcome him to The Young and Restless family."
Meanwhile, Thompson shared how grateful he is to be part of "General Hospital's" Legacy and for the opportunities that the show gave him. He also assured "The Young And The Restless" fans that he will do his best in order to give justice as he takes on the role of Billy Abbott.
