‘Star Trek Beyond’ Trailer Review: Paramount Pictures Debuts First Official Trailer; Does the Justin Lin Film Seem Better than Predecessors? [Watch]

Paramount Pictures released the first trailer for "Star Trek Beyond," an upcoming sci-fi film directed by Justin Lin. It is the next "Star Trek" movie in the series that was restarted in 2009 by J.J Abrams.

According to First Showing, the movie trailer has quite an interesting vibe, much funkier and energetic, with a lot of crazy aliens and weird actions. The full cast include all the returning Enterprise crew members: Anton Yelchin, Chris Pine, John Cho, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana. Idris Elba, Joe Taslim and Sofia Boutella will also appear.

The upcoming movie is the continuation of the "Starship Enterprise's" intergalactic voyage, with a crew featuring Captain James T. Kirk, Uhura, Spock, Sulu, Chekov, Scotty and Bones.

The trailer does include some eye-catching stunts but the first peek at Lin's take on the epic science fiction franchise lacks a preview at Elba's villain. The trailer shows the "Enterprise" crew stocked on an alien planet and forced to become slaves, and a more hilarious take on the series compared to the last two installments, while playing the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" at the background.

The "Star Trek Beyond" is set to debut in July 2016. The trailer is just meant to give the audience a preview at the franchise's future. It is full of action, though it does not show what all that action might add up to. It also shows Boutella's unnamed alien pugilist, some shots of swarming alien spaceships and some welcome dissing from Bones in between jumping, punching and more jumping, as reported by Wired.

The trailer runs for 90 seconds, just enough to see its difference from the previous installments. That is no doubt because director Abrams has beamed on over to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" which will open this week, though he still maintains an executive producer chair, and that is not a bad thing.

If nothing else, "Star Trek Beyond" seems to remember how to have fun, in a way that "Star Trek Into Darkness" maybe forgot.
