‘Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur’ Movie Update: 'Sons of Anarchy' Star Charlie Hunnam's Film Gets New Release Date

"Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur" is originally set to be released on July 22, 2016 but Warner Brothers moved the film's showing at a much later date.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur" will get a later release contrary to the production's original plan. Warner Bros. set the new showing to Feb. 17, 2017, almost seven months after the initial release date.

The decision of the film outfit to move the date might be due to the fact that it wants to repeat the success of "Kingsman: The Secret Service" in the box office, noted The Wrap. The action film opened in mid-February this year and was able to earn more than $400M worldwide.

Warner Bros. feels confident about the Presidents' Day opening for "Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur" although it will be up against big sequel movies, "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" and "Bad Boys 3."

The movie is directed by Guy Ritchie, whose "Man from U.N.C.L.E." did not do well in the box office, causing WB to lose more than $50M. However, the studio is confident with Ritchie helming this new Arthurian legend film which is slated to be done in six installments, the first part being King Arthur's story. Screenplay is written by Joby Harold.

The plot tackles a young Arthur, played by "Pacific Rim" actor Charlie Hunnam, and how Excalibur became his. In the course of his journey of finding his real identity as a royalty, he joins a rebellion against Vortigern (Jude Law), the dictator who stole Arthur's kingdom.

Other notable actors to appear in "Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur" include Eric Bana, who plays Uther Pendragon, and Djimon Hounsou as Sir Bedivere. The film also includes "Game of Thrones" actor Aidan Gillen and soccer superstar David Beckham.
