Lee Jong Suk Inks A Deal For First Chinese Drama, Joins Cast of ‘Jade Sweetheart’

One of the top Korean actors these days, Lee Jong Suk, is making his first ever Chinese drama. He's been cast to join "Jade Sweetheart."

According to Allkpop.com, Lee Jong Suk has been tapped to play a role in the Chinese-Korean collaboration project and he's been onboard immediately after accepting the offer. Lee Jong Suk's paycheck for the 50-episode "Jade Sweetheart" is rumored to be a whopping $5.1 million (6 billion Won).

Produced by DMG Entertainment ("Iron Guy 3," "Point Break"), "Jade Sweetheart" begins filming in January Shanghai and Hengdien. The popular actor will be working again with director Jin Hyuk ("Prosecutor Princess," "Doctor Stranger"). "Jade Sweetheart," which has a budget of 40 billion won, is a fantasy romance set in the 1930s centering on jewelry trade between two rich Chinese families heirs. Lee Jong Suk will play the role of the second son of an emerging jewelry trade family. His character is described as "a modern boy who is gentle on the outside, but tough inside."

A plot summary from Soompi.com reads, "The story is about a woman who is confused about her feelings, a "female neurotic" who experienced a change from "princess to female servant" and how she become a goddess amidst all these difficulties, and her love-hate relationship with a CEO (who is back from overseas) living in between the bright and dark sides of the world, how they find their real self in the their love and get a brilliant life in the process."

The series is yet to cast a Chinese actress who will star opposite Lee Jong Suk.

According to Soompi.com, the drama is slated to premiere in winter 2016 on Zhejiang, Anhui Television.

Meanwhile, the contract of the "Pinocchio" start with Wellmade Yedang expires in January 2016, but there is no confirmation yet on whether he will be renewed or will be signed with a new agency.
