MTV revamps its New Year's Eve schedule with new TV specials and marathons.
Variety exclusively reported that the network will abandon its yearly tradition of airing a full coverage of the decade-old "Rock N' Roll Ball" countdown special since 1981.
The network has previously shortened their New Year's Eve 2015 TV event for only an hour. It was hosted by "Victorious" actress Victoria Justice and Charlamagne at the Times Square. The news has sprouted a lot of rumors regarding the network's latest move on scrapping the annual countdown special.
According to the outlet, it might be a result of having lesser viewership and concerns about the costs on a very challenging day. However, TV insiders declined that reasoning. This year, MTV will have a new TV schedule for the first day of 2016.
The Internet video clip entitled "Ridiculousness" will air several episodes until midnight. It will be aired after the "Teen Wolf" teaser.
"Ridiculousness," which features viral videos, is hosted by Rob Dyrdek with Sterling "Steelo" Brim and Chanel West Coast.
Meanwhile, "Teen Wolf" will kick off the festivities with a first look on the first episode of the midseason. Season 5, Episode 11 "The Last Chimera" will have a "six-minute cold open" on New Year's Eve. The "Teen Wolf' sneak peek will air ahead of the "Ridiculousness" marathon which will start at 7 a.m.
Hypable reported that a previous "Teen Wolf" trailer was released, which was said to be similar to the promotional videos in the past. The outlet described the storyline will include a hopeless Scott and the deaths of various lovable "Teen Wolf" characters. The promo entitled "They’re All Going to Die" featured scenes from three different angles. In the trailer, Scott looked in pain after being thrown down on the ground while a mysterious creature appeared from the sand. On the other hand, another creature made his debut in his own grotesque appearance.
"Teen Wolf" Season 5, Episode 11 "The Last Chimera" will air on Tuesday, Jan. 5 at 9 p.m. on MTV.
