5 Big Media Merge Deals That Could Happen in 2016

This may all be in speculation, but the rumors will keep the investors looking forward to a bright 2016 if these media and tech mergers will happen. Alix Steel in Bloomberg mentioned that in this sector the total is $1.6 trillion. So, she asked Alex Sherman for what are some of the big deals that could get done next year? To which Alex replies that these are his best guesses, dishing out what he knows that could probably happen for the media sector.

Alex mentioned that the most obvious one is the merger between Lionsgate and Starz. He mentioned that these companies almost came together on December 2014 and for tax reason, it did not happen. He mentioned that it is more beneficial for John Malone who owns a piece of both companies to wait until 2016 for Starz to be domiciled in Canada so that they can pay lesser in taxes.

He also mentioned that Yelp, may be acquired. Sherman said that it was almost acquired the past year but then the CEO doesn't want to sell at that time. It may be merged instead of being sold out right with another struggling tech company like Groupon or Grubhub.

He will not be surprised if Maxim got sold. The news has been going on for months that they were in talk with Texas Instruments, the biggest maker of analog chips.

Paypal might be acquired. One year after the Ebay and paypal split, the transactions for paypal will become tax free and he said Google may have made a bet for paypal.

The biggest wildcard he said was if Comcast decides to do anything at all for the year 2016. They may go for T-mobile or something.

So there you have it! Sherman's spiels, if anything that may interest you whether as a small local investor or just someone who is waiting for all these acquisitions to happen for a better service of your favorite media and tech companies.
