‘Once Upon a Time’ Season 5B Spoilers: Old Characters Return; Showrunners Tease on Underworld Storyline

Returning characters will be one of the highlights of "Once Upon a Time" when it airs back in 2016, especially on its premiere episode.

The midseason finale of "Once Upon a Time" season 5 was quite a cliffhanger and fans will still have three months to wait until the new episodes premiere in March.

"Once Upon a Time" season 5 episode 12, titled "Souls of the Departed," will mark episode 100 of ABC's hit TV series and will serve as its midseason premiere. Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, the show creators, have been giving teasers about the Underworld plotline.

Kitsis confirmed during an interview with Variety that old characters will be revisited through visions, flashbacks and "another realm."

"The hundredth episode for us - and the second half of the season - what we're really excited about is, we feel like we're going to be honoring the show by really giving you that Season 1 feeling all over again," Kitsis stated.

According to International Business Times, Victoria Smurfit as Cruella de Vil returns to the show but not on the premiere episode. Giancarlo Esposito as Sidney Glass will be the one to return on episode 12 of the current season. It is unclear how Esposito's return will fit the storyline. Jonathan Whitesell as Hercules and Kacey Rohl as Meg will appear first in "Once Upon a Time" season 5 episode 13, "Labor of Love."

Furthermore, Greg German will be seen at the midseason premiere as the Underworld leader, Hades. He was initially cast as The Distinguished Gentleman, a mysterious role. However, it turns out that German will be playing the ruler of the Underworld. Robbie Kay will be reprising his role as Peter Pan, and Kay teases viewers that they might see a new kind of Pan.

On the other hand, Barbara Hershey's Cora will reunite with her daughter Regina, played by Lana Parilla. Cora will be of good help as she will explain the rules of the Underworld. Prince Henry (Tony Perez), Regina's father, will also be featured on episode 100. Fans will see an older and wiser Dorothy to be played by Teri Reeves, who takes on a warrior version of the character.

Rachel Shelley will reappear for the midseason episodes as Milah. She is Rumple's (Robert Carlyle) ex-wife and Hook's (Colin O'Donoghue) former lover. Emma Caulfield will be returning on the premiere episode, still reprising her role as The Blind Witch. Fans assumed her being one of the bad guys in the Underworld.

On the other hand, Josh Dallas will have two roles in the show, as Prince Charming/David and also Charming's brother James. The twins Charming and James will reunite in Hades' territory.

"Once Upon a Time" Season 5B will air starting March 6, 2016 on ABC.
