On Dec. 9, 2015, there was a post going on around Facebook as a chain letter stating:
"Mark Zuckerberg has announced that he is giving away $4.5 billon of Facebook stock. What you may not have heard is that he plans to give 10% of it away to people like YOU and ME! All you have to do is copy and paste this message into a post IMMEDIATELY. At midnight PST, Facebook will search through the day's post and award 1000 people with $4.5 million each as a way of saying thank you for making Facebook such a powerful vehicle for connection.
It was just a hoax! To those who took the bait, sorry but Mark Zuckerberg will not give you millions just because you changed your facebook status. This kind of Facebook status was finally debunked by the facebook team, who posted this on their Facebook status:
"Friends don't let friends copy and paste memes. While Priscilla and Mark's pledge to give money to improve the world is real, not everything you read on the internet is, and they're not giving it away randomly. Be safe out there, sweepstakes seekers."
The truth to this story is that Mark and his wife Priscilla did pledge to donate 99% of their shares to charity. This is all because they want to make the world a better place to live, but not that they just want to give away free money to random people who can actually find a real job to begin with.
Also, Facebook warned individuals who could be victimized by scams. There are lots of scams going on out there in social media. Reports of impersonations are rampant and Facebook users are advised to report them immediately.
