Samsung Announces All Smart TVs Will Be IoT Compatible by 2016

Samsung recently revealed that all their 2016 smart TVs will be Internet of Things compatible (IoT).

With SmartThings, Samsung's home-automation Internet of Things platform, users are given the ability to manage and control all home smart devices which include lights, locks, thermostats, surround sound systems, front door cameras, and motion sensors, Samsung reported.

Samsung's lineup of 2016 smart TVs revolutionizes what a smart TV can do with it having Internet of Things-ready. People can now get a firsthand look and experience as Samsung will demonstrate its Internet of Things smart TV functions and features during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in early January.

CEO and co-founder of SmartThings Alex Hawkinson shared that many people will benefit from the Samsung smart TVs with SmartThings technology, ZDnet reported. He stated that "Applying this technology into current household devices is a major step forwards that will make it much easier for everyone to experience the benefits of a smart home."

In May, Young Sohn, Samsung electronics president and chief strategy officer, unveiled the three types of chips with their corresponding uses and specifications used for their Internet of Things technology.

The first is the Artik One, the smallest chip which is for location-based activities and tracking such as the smart bands. Second is the Artik Five, a mid-range chip for smart home hubs. The last one is the Artik 10, a top-tier chip used for home servers and personal cloud systems.

The unveiling of the chips was then followed by an unveiling of a series of smart devices with Internet of Things suites in September. Samsung also featured a SmartThings hub called the SleepSense which tracks sleep and a washing machine which sends alerts to Android and iOS powered devices through a downloadable app.

Samsung is said to keep on revolutionizing and developing their products for the benefit of its consumers.
