'Star Wars: Battlefront' Sales Due to 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens? The EA Shooter Just Sold 12 Million Copies

EA is cashing in millions from the success of game "Star Wars: Battlefront."

As previously reported, not everybody seemed impressed when the "Star Wars" game from EA was launched in November, including Breaking Benjamin frontman Benjamin Burnley. The singer, who was a self-confessed fan of the "Star Wars" saga publicly slammed "Star Wars Battlefront." He called the game "Sh**ty" and he described how much he hated the EA title's gameplay. He reportedly broke a disc of the game and shared the photo on social media.

However, his opinion of "Star Wars Battlefront" did not discourage other fans from buying the game. In fact, according to IGN, "Battlefront" is breaking records just like the movie "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Moreover, the online game from EA has sold around 12 million copies since it was launched in Nov 17 and 12 million copies is millions of dollars for the EA.

According to Fortune, the first person shooter from EA sold the first 6 million copies in November. Then in December, "Battlefront" sold another 6 million copies. With an average of $55 per copy, analyst Michael Pachter at Wedbush Securities estimated that the game has produced roughly $660 million revenue. EA can forget the disc the Breaking Benjamin frontman broke and surely, not all "Battlefront" fans paid attention to his harsh review of the game.

It was also reported that Randy Nelson, content manager of Sensor Tower's store intelligence platform, believes that the film "The Force Awakens" had contributed to the massive sales of "Star Wars: Battlefront." He reportedly added that even "Star Wars" mobile games like EA's "Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes," Konami's "Star Wars: Force Collection" and Disney's "Star Wars: Commander-Worlds in Conflict" also saw increase in revenues after the film's debut.

According to Fortune, Nelson said, "There's no doubting that the estimated $350 million marketing budget for The Force Awakens has played a role in escalating buzz around all things Star Wars."
