Golden Globe Awards 2016: Host Ricky Gervais Apologizes in Advance for What He'll Say during the Live Telecast

A week before the live telecast of the 2016 Golden Globe Awards, Ricky Gervais has already expressed his apologies in case he says offensive words during the show.

Ricky Gervais took to Twitter to extend his advanced apology. The English actor was every bit his humorous self when he posted, "Because I can see the future, I'd like to apologise now for the things I said at next week's Golden Globes. I was drunk & didn't give a f--k."

The 54-year-old comedian's fans replied with the same wit as they expressed their support for him. On the other hand, some commented against his antic.

Gervais started hosting the Golden Globes in 2010, then went on to host two more in 2011 and 2012. However, the British actor's hosting of the awards show garnered both positive and negative criticisms.

Gervais is known for his no-holds-barred hosting coupled with humor. During the actor-director's stint at the Golden Globes, he made fun of not just actors but the Hollywood Foreign Press Association as well as a part of his spiels throughout the awards show.

In 2010, the first time Gervais hosted the Golden Globes, he mentioned he would not be doing the hosting again several times. However, the comedian came back a year after with even more cruel jokes than the first time.

In 2012, however, Gervais spiels toned down. This would be the last time he would host the show. In the three years that the English actor took the hosting task, he managed to incense many A-list celebrities, who are not used to being humiliated. The list of Hollywood actors include Bruce Willis, Robert Downey, Jr., Madonna, Tom Cruise and Jodie Foster.

After affirming in 2012 that he will not be hosting the awards show again, Ricky Gervais will be back with his old antics during the Golden Globes 2016 on Jan. 10 on NBC.
