HTC One M8, One M9, One A9 Receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update

Things are looking good for HTC One M8, One M9 and One A9 users as Android 6.0 Marshmallow update has started rolling out for these devices. Reports say that HTC devices will be upgraded to Android M by the first quarter of 2016.

HTC US Vice President of Product Management Mo Versi announced on Twitter that unlocked HTC A9 and M9 devices were scheduled to receive the Marshmallow update by Christmas Eve, so some users should have received the update by now. HTC One M8 started receiving the update early last month and it was promised that M8 and M9 will be updated before end of 2015. It may take some time for other users though as normal because of the gradual release.

HTC One M9 will receive Android 6.0 while One A9 will receive Android 6.0.1, according to Versi. HTC A9 came out of the box already installed with Marshmallow OS.

In an official list from GSM Arena, the following mobiles released in 2014 and 2015 will receive the new Android 6.0 firmware in the coming months: (2015) HTC One M9 Plus, HTC One E9 Plus, HTC One M9, HTC One E9, HTC One ME, HTC Butterfly 3 and HTC Desire 826; (2014) HTC One (M8), HTC One (E8), HTC One (M8 Eye), HTC Desire 820 and HTC Desire 816.

Marshmallow update for HTC One M8 and One M9 under T-Mobile are currently under manufacturer development but rumors predicted a schedule of Jan. 6. Sprint is also said to be rolling out Android 6.0 in the first week of January, so that could be anytime now. Verizon was supposed to release the update end of December according to rumors. Reports say that not all U.S. carriers are going to release Android M update though.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes with several exciting new features, bug fixes and performance improvements, and most importantly, security patches to address recently discovered exploits.
