‘Transformers 5’ News: Michael Bay Is Back to Helm the Franchise Film; Will It Be Really His Last?

Michael Bay is back as the director of "Transformers 5" after passing on the directorial responsibilities in "Transformers: Age of Extinction."

Bay, who directed the first three "Transformers" films, bowed out of the fourth installment. However, just when the movie franchise's fans thought the superstar director was gone forever, he confirmed that he will be directing "Transformers 5" set to be released in 2017, Entertainment Weekly reported.

The 50-year-old filmmaker said, "The middle-[budget] movie is basically gone. They just want these big movies."

He maintained that although he always had a great time making the "Hasbro" movies, it would be his last time to direct a movie in the franchise. "I have to pass the reins to someone else," Bay affirmed.

Cinema Blend, on the other hand, said that although the filmmaker has confirmed it will be his last time to direct in the series, the affirmation should be taken with a grain of salt. It is no secret that Bay had mentioned repeatedly in the past years that he would leave the franchise, but he eventually associated himself to the upcoming "Transformers" film.

The director, who was once likened by actress Megan Fox to Hitler, is currently working on the early stages of "Transformers 5." Bay will be working with Mark Wahlberg, who initially confirmed that he will be reprising his role as Cade Yeager.

As for the other actors who appeared in "Transformers: Age of Extinction," it is still unsure who among them will be coming back. Nicola Peltz, who played Wahlberg's daughter in the film, and Jack Reynor, who played her character's boyfriend, have yet to confirm if they will be a part of "Transformers 5" or not.

Meanwhile, Bay has finished one lesser known movie project. "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi" stars John Krasinski of "The Office" and will hit the cinemas on Jan. 15.
