Celebrity Homes 2016: Simon Cowell Upgrades Security of Los Angeles Mansion

"The X Factor UK" judge Simon Cowell is upgrading his Los Angeles mansion to a burglar-proof property after his London home was robbed.

Professional builders are now starting the renovation on Cowell's Beverly Hills mansion, Express UK reported. They will be building a panic room that is bullet proof and blast proof. The room will also have a direct phone line connected to the police department.

The 56-year-old music star hunter reportedly bought the Beverly Hills mansion from Jennifer Lopez in 2005. Some reports stated that Cowell bought it for $8 million. What is sure though is that the old home built on the Palm Drive property was completely demolished because the music producer did not like how it looked.

Cowell had a new mansion built as a replacement and construction was completed around five to six years after he bought the property. The property currently has six bedrooms and six bathrooms. Some features of the home include a gym, spa, solarium, a state-of-the-art media theater, and a lap pool. The panic room, now being built in the house, will become another one of the high-tech amenities of the estate.

The British personality had a handful of properties in the city a few years ago. However, after his partner Lauren Silverman got pregnant and gave birth, Cowell listed some of his Los Angeles homes, retaining just a few homes in the country.

In December 2015, the former "American Idol" judge's home in London was robbed by burglars while he, Silverman and their son Eric were sleeping. It was reported that the thieves were able to take pieces of jewelry and some cash before bolting out of the scene.

A source close to Cowell said that the TV personality was distressed about the incident thinking that if it happened in the U.S, chances are that the burglars may be armed and could even be holding firearms and could easily kidnap one of them.
