Controversies continue to surround the Duggar family after the Josh Duggar's Ashley Madison highly publicized scandal. Now, Josh's sister Jill Duggar and her husband Derick Dillard are under fire as fans start questioning if their donations for the couple's mission trips are being used in the right way.
According to ET, the issue surfaced when Jill and Derick were noted to have flown back to the U.S. twice at the least since they left for a mission in Central America. When Jill, 24, posted on Instagram a photo of herself with the 26-year-old husband, and 5-month-old son Israel, with a caption "Travelling," fans took notice of their vacations when they were supposed to be on a mission work.
Fans also noted Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard's attendance at the wedding of their cousin Amy Duggar last weekend in Bentonville, Arkansas. They were likewise present in the wedding of "Bringing Up Bates" stars Michaela Bates and Brandon Keilen on Aug. 15 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
One angry commenter said: "Who paid for this trip to the states and back to El Salvador, and can you prove that none of the donations you solicited from people went to fund anything but the mission trip itself?" Another poster said: "Do u fly at the expense of your ministry donors? Because I'm sure a lot of them thought the money went to hungry people in El Salvador. Not airfare for Amy's wedding........"
Another comment reads: "Jill, how did you spend my donation for your mission trip? Where are the pictures of the hospital, schools and bible studies you helped with? Can you post them so I can show everyone why I donated to your cause?"
In an attempt to soothe fans and donors alike, perhaps, Jill posted a Throwback Thursday photo of some people she reportedly met during the mission. She wrote, "My heart aches for the hardships these people are facing daily due to pressure and violence from the gangs. Please pray for their safety! We look forward to returning there to continue ministering after language school!"
Derick and Jill also updated their family blog to share about their mission and perhaps to respond to the growing criticisms about the donations they get through the family's tax-exempt organization "Dillard Family Ministries."
"Jill, Israel, and I recently arrived back in the States for a planned, month long trip to take care of some things and enjoy time with family and friends while we're here, before heading back to Central America," Derick wrote.
"This last month has been a bit of a whirlwind for us with a quick trip to the U.S. and back here to Central America over the weekend," Jill wrote. "When we were first invited to our friend, Michaella Bates', wedding we didn't think we were going to be able to make it. But once we realized that we needed to make a trip back to the States to do some filming for the upcoming TLC documentary, we were thrilled that the dates coincided with that of the wedding! We were able to make the stop in Tennessee on our way back here to Central America!"
